We’re excited to have returned from London, England, where we attended the Sun Protection Conference at London’s prestigious Royal College of Surgeons. The event was hosted by Summit Events and took place June 9th and 10th.
Textiles, fabrics and even medications require SPF and UPF applications and must be properly researched in order to guarantee the safety of the user.
That’s why these conferences take place, so that the best researchers in the Sun Protection industry can rub elbows and talk about their findings and breakthroughs in order to create a better global industry. With new research and information available, companies are being held more and more accountable for the substances they use to manufacture their products. If you want to make it in this world of information, you need a safe, high quality product.
The 13th International Sun Protection Conference covered this and more, following the overlapping theme question of, “Can Nature help us develop future sun protection strategies?” According to experts coordinating the event, the first sun screens used by earlier humans didn’t provide perfect SPF protection, but it did protect against UVB and allow for the skin to tan while providing future protection within the skin itself.
Modern science can only protect against so much. The sun’s rays are complex and cannot be simply summarized in a few different “wavelengths,” like UVA and UVB. They are much more complex than that and our scientific findings only produce protection against ultraviolet rays and typical solar radiation. Does nature hold the key to protecting individuals against the elements of the sun’s radiation that scientists haven’t even fathomed yet? This conference explored this possibility, considering the true qualities of solar and electromagnetic radiation experienced in nature.
Scientists have discerned that electromagnetic radiation is one form of radiant energy produced by raw sunlight. However, the broad spectrum of light provided by the sun is difficult to quantify and even more difficult to predict. Electromagnetic waves and their solar brethren do business at the speed of light, which in case you didn’t know, is 186,000 miles per second. That means light could technically travel the entirety of our planet at the equator 7.5 times in one second. When something is that fast, you need specialized equipment to measure and properly quantify it. Being that this is a relatively new science, we are still getting a grasp on delving into the deeper levels of solar radiation.
The industry is ever-growing and changing. At Solar Light, we’re constantly innovating, creating new products that analyze the aspects of solar radiation deeply and profoundly. The purpose of our instrumentation is to improve our level of understanding of the true potential of solar radiation and electromagnetic radiation, while being aware of its dangers.
We plan to attend events in the future as well. Our clientele are important to us and we want to develop products that will better serve them and their needs related to in-vitro and in-vivo testing.
